These are a pair of vintage, dangle, etched, solid copper Hoop Dancer
screw-back earrings. The Kachina figure is etched on both the back and front of
each earring, and they are holding hoops. The hoops represent the circle of
life. In Pueblo cultures, Kachinas are spirits or personifications of things in
the real world. A Kachina can represent anything in the natural world or
cosmos, so there may be kachinas for the sun, stars, wind, thunderstorms, corn,
insects, as well as various other concepts.
I purchased these earrings as part of an estate from a woman who owned an
antique store and was a collector of jewelry, purses, and artwork for her
entire life. She believed they were from the 1950s – 1960s.
Approximate measurements:
• 1 ¼ inches x ½ inch
CONDITION: Very good vintage condition. No issues to note. The screw-back
mechanisms on the earrings are fully functioning, and are in good working
order. The copper metal is still lovely, with a slight patina of age consistent
with vintage items from the mid-century. These are vintage items. I have done
my best to describe them, but it is possible that a small defect could have
escaped my notice. Please look at the photos, as they will give you a good idea
of the overall condition of these vintage treasures.
